Biography

Gabriel Manoukian, aka "Gabo," was born in 1957 in Yerevan, Armenia. A contemporary surrealist with a dazzling and captivating palette, Gabo's characters radiate joy and happiness, expressing a mischievous and playful spirit in an imaginary and sensual world.
He graduated from the historic Panos Terlemexzian Arts College, an institution known for preserving the long history of Armenian artistic traditions. Subsequently, in 1988, he earned another degree from the Yerevan State Institute of Fine Arts and Theatre.
Gabriel Manoukian's paintings are held in museums and private collections worldwide. In 2015, he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Republic of Armenia. More recently, in 2025, Gabo's art received the Golden Award from the prestigious Tokyo Metropolitan Museum, further cementing his reputation as a visionary contemporary artist. He remains a seminal figure and a significant contributor to the discovery of art and the enduring history of Armenian art and culture.
