Gris De Garance

Gris de Garance was born in Évian-les-Bains, between lake and mountains, in a soft light that already seems diluted by the water. Her artist name evokes an imaginary color — an inner nuance, subtle and elusive, on the border between reality and dream.

Trained alongside her studies at the Chambéry Municipal School of Art, she developed a sensitive and personal artistic language very early on. Watercolor emerged as a natural choice: she explores its transparencies and imperfections, sometimes highlighting them with fine black felt-tip pen strokes, or enhancing them with Posca markers or chalk. This interplay between fluidity and precision, erasure and assertion, is one of the hallmarks of her work.

Deeply inspired by the dreamlike world of Nicoletta Ceccoli, Gris de Garance paints thoughts, reveries, and inner landscapes. Her seemingly calm female figures reveal an invisible effervescence: flowers, fragments of nature, lines, and symbols appear to spring from the very mind. Poised between figurative and abstract art, her work explores resilience and metamorphosis, transforming emotion into visual poetry.

Her brushstrokes also give rise to floral compositions and landscapes where nature becomes breath, an extension of the soul, and a space for contemplation. Whether it be a face filled with emotion or a silent horizon, each work seeks that suspended moment where reality gently wavers toward reverie.
