Mixa Painting is an artist exploring identity and sustainability through richly layered paintings made with natural materials, She started collaborating with Tobian Art Gallery since 2025.
Mixa Painting is a narrative artist whose practice is rooted in an ongoing process of reflection, research, contemplation, experimentation, and production. Her paintings are characterized by rich layers and vibrant color, forming visual narratives that explore personal identity alongside a deep commitment to environmental consciousness. By working exclusively with natural materials, Mixa embeds sustainability directly into her artistic language, allowing materiality itself to become a carrier of meaning. Each work emerges as an intimate dialogue between self and environment, inviting viewers to reflect on their own relationship with identity, memory, and the natural world.
Educated internationally, Mixa studied design at the School of Design in Malta before completing a Ph.D. at the University of Nottingham in 2010. Her artistic development has been further shaped through extensive masterclasses and studies in Malta, London, and Miami, including training at St Martin's College, the Royal Academy Schools in London, the Slade School of Fine Art, and a year-long masterclass program with Kara Bullock in Miami. Between 2023 and 2025, she completed her MFA at the University of Malta.
Mixa has exhibited widely in solo and collective exhibitions across Malta, the United Kingdom, France, Canada, and online platforms. Her solo exhibitions include Hidden at Xara Palace (2019), Perspectives of Fairy Tales at IOD London (2021), Motherhood at the Malta Society of Arts (2022), Flourish at Art by the Seaside Gallery (2024), and Made by Earth at Gemelli Gallery (2024). Her work has also featured in numerous curated collective exhibitions, residencies, and international art fairs.
In recognition of her practice, Mixa was selected for the BBA Gallery Berlin and the Intercontinental Biennale in Brazil in 2024. She is scheduled to participate in major international events including Expo Osaka 2025 and the Florence Biennale, and in 2025 she was selected as one of the top 100 European artists. In the same year, she began a professional collaboration with Tobian Art Gallery, marking a new phase in the international development of her artistic career.
