Stanley Brouwn (1935 Suriname – 2017 Amsterdam) is regarded as one of the most important figures in European Conceptual Art. Active primarily in the Netherlands, he became internationally known for his investigations into distance, walking, measurement, and human movement. His work is held in major institutional collections including Tate Modern, Centre Pompidou, MoMA, and Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. Brouwn consistently rejected traditional art-world conventions, often refusing exhibitions, catalogues, and photography of his work, reinforcing the radical conceptual integrity of his practice.
