Philippe Halaburda is a French artist who has coined the term Geographic Abstraction to describe his work. Through his use of color and lines, Halaburda creates sharp imaginary landscapes that visualize the interconnectedness of humans and their environments.
Since moving to New York City in 2016, Halaburda's work has been influenced by the city's linear urban environment.
He describes his current work as geographic abstraction or psychogeographic mapping, and sees his designs as translating human and non-human interactions and emotions into colorful, imagined landscapes.
His work evokes the geometric constructions of Russian avant-garde artist Kazimir Malevich, and Halaburda has cited Piet Mondrian as an influence on his use of color.
In 2019, Halaburda published his first art book entitled 'Spatial representation of emotion' about his work in New York since 2016. Halaburda also offers commissions and public window tape art, including a recent display for the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Jersey City, NJ in 2020.

Philippe Halaburda was born in Meaux in 1972. He currently lives and works between France and the United States. Philippe Halaburda studied graphic arts at the Superior School of Art EDTA Sonas in Paris. After his studies he decided to travel for a while to discover the different styles and movements of European Art. Philippe's work is undeniably abstract. His method is simple, the artist tries to depict his thoughts on the canvas by visualizing them. his pieces are real imaginary landscapes. Philippe's pieces are always very well composed and arranged, accompanied by bright, vivid colors that resemble cartographies, a filiation admitted by the artist. Philippe's works are exposed in several European countries, as well as in the United States since 2012. After having lived for four years in the city of Beaulieu near Aix en Provence, his work became visible in many private and public collections. In 2015, the artist decided to settle for several months in New York in order to develop his project called "New York City Mapping".
