Alex Katz - Celebrating 90 Years

Nuremberg From 5 October to 15 April 2019

Galerie Fluegel-Roncak, with a strong focus on Contemporary Art and Pop Art will hold its opening reception for the new show ALEX KATZ – Celebrating 90 Years from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Friday, October 6th 2017. The Exhibition runs through January 15th 2018. On view are prints, mostly from the last 15 years, some unique oil paintings on wood from the Small Paintings series and cut-outs.

Alex Katz was born in July 1927 in Brooklyn/New York and is one of the most important artists of American Contemporary and Pop Art. His auction record so far is 690.000 US$ for a painting. His works can be seen in all major museums around the world including Albertina/Vienna and MOMA/New York.

He developed his own painting style in the 1950s by producing iconic, cool and effective images of life in the wealthy leisure class and of natural idylls. In a further step, he reproduced, reflected and reduced his motifs in his prints, which retained the planes of deep, radiant color that characterize his paintings.

Galerie Fluegel-Roncak in Nuremberg is focused on high quality works by Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, Julian Opie, James Rosenquist, Alex Katz, Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Tracey Emin, Heiner Meyer, Ed Ruscha or Mel Ramos. We also have pieces by Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Gerhard Richter, Basquiat and many more. Street Art is represented by XOOOOX, Mr. Brainwash, Crash and Bambi.

The gallery was founded in 1999. After moving within Nuremberg the exhibition space is located at the current adress on two floors since 2008. Changing solo shows expose different positions of our gallery program. Participating at international art fairs like Kunst Zurich in November completes our gallery task.
