Shifting Surfaces

Bologna From 2 February to 24 March 2018

Presentation
The MAGMA gallery presents "Shifting Surfaces", the double personal exhibition of 2501 (Milan, 1981) and Aris (Tuscany, 1978).

Names of leading Italian urban art, the two artists have many collaborations in the urban space and a common path of artistic growth influenced by graffiti. The typical Aris figures and the linear approach of 2501 are combined and exalted within the exhibition, which highlights the most recent works of the two artists, created specifically for the event.

Moving surfaces, unstable, changing: the title of the exhibition highlights the dynamism present in the works of both. The works created for "Shifting Surfaces" express, despite the chromatic essentiality, a constant compositional tension, a vital rhythm consisting of a painting based on the continuity of the gesture and the sign.
The 2501 lines symbolize an incessant weaving and writing on the subject, be it ceramic, metal, canvas or paper, reinforced for example by the superposition of layers of different materials and crossed by a light without temporal filtering between the tracks , between the sign and another.

A flow that itself becomes a support structure, rewriting new compositional architectures. Through the installations and murals, the 2501 research has always focused on the relationship between art and the environment, in search of new expressive ways, paying great attention to performance, and not only to the result. This is how parallel projects are created, such as "Nomadic Experiment" and "Glimpse of America", where acting, doing, becomes the creative center itself.

In Aris' works, surrealist figures, recognizable by enigmatic profiles, seem to have a liquid nature, capable of continuous change, of mixing in new forms and new colors. His artistic research focuses on materials and places, often peripheral and abandoned spaces, where the landscape is the result of urban stratification and the passage of man. A stratification found in his works on canvas and paper, where jets, tempera, markers are superimposed to create new surfaces above existing ones, underlining their mutability over time. A set of silhouettes reminiscent of the agglomerations of human figures emerge from undefined horizons, a set of plots that represent these different stages on the surface.

In "Displacement of surfaces", moreover, the works of the two artists dialogue with the spaces of the MAGMA gallery, will change the perception of the surfaces also thanks to the creation of the on-site installation in the project room, the time to push the viewer to discover the architecture of space.
