Presentation

Pascal Mirande was born on 12th June, 1968 at Sainte-Adresse in Seine Maritime, he is a photographer and visual artist. He lives in La Rochelle. Mirande graduated from the Fine Arts school in Poitiers, in 1993 followed by Rennes in 1996. He learned photography with Alain Fleig and continued to study with Tom Drahos, Hervé Rabot and Paul Château. A self-taught artist, he experimented with drawing. Jean-Louis Chollet taught him painting. He currently works at the Carré Amelot and teaches silver film and digital photography.

Pascale Mirande's photos have the same aesthetic look as 19th century photography (influence of Daguerreotype, pictorial aspects, auto-chromes of the Lumière brothers ...). He uses the wet collodion process and stereoscopy to create dual images. Nature has a lot to do with the artist's work, one can perceive forest, branches, trees...The artist punctuates his work with references from cinema film, for example Georges Méliès, Fritz Lang or even King-Kong.

His photography leans on "in situ" installations in various places and make up ephemeral structures and are highlighted with unsettling poetry, torn between confrontation and vigilance. The landscape turns into a theater decor where imagination has a major role to play. He combines drawing and sculpture to make up a universe filled with mythologies, symbols, tales...like the one of Babel or Icare. By spoofing current images, he makes up hybrid worlds.

He obtained an individual grant from DRAC Brittany in 1998 and 2004. In 2010, he did a residency at Domaine Abbadia in Hendaye. He is represented by a gallery in Lyon.
