Pascal said: "The eternal silence of these infinite spaces frightens me". The reflection of sculptor Benoît Lemercier also focuses primarily on the universe and the sciences. Born in 1965 in France, he sculpts immensity, from one infinity to another. His series of sculptures deal with the problems of the unknown, of invisible matter, of the infinitely large, often represented in the form of infinite curves, of the infinitely small, of the path of particles of light. In 2004, he created the “Mathematics” movement. Benoit Lemercier uses art to show the reality that escapes our senses, while trying to understand it whether the world is chaotic or ordered. It is in his workshop in the Gers that he models his steel sculptures. He always liked to understand the material, to understand how to work with it, with what to combine it. Science is its mainstay, because it is interested in scales that we do not care about. His works are part of large collections, notably that of the National Contemporary Art Fund, but also private collections: that of Société Générale, or the Bouvet-Ladubay collection.
