Spain Born in: 1970
Héctor Mediavilla is a Spanish photographer born in Barcelona in 1970. Holder of a masters degree in Sciences of enterprises and a MBA from ESADE (Ecole Superior d'Etudes d'Administration et Direction d'Entrepises de Barcelona), he then worked several years in the marketing department of a Japanese company, before being the project manager of an innovative concept, sustainable neighborhoods in catalog. In 2001, he did a first photographic reportage which already showed an artistic uniqueness and a strong interest for atypical social groups. Armed with a strong desire to denounce, Hector Mediavilla aspires above all to understand the human being and its relationship with its surrounding. in 2003, he started a project on the Congolian Sape, during his first trip to Brazzaville, where his role was to train professional photographers in Congo for the program "Support for visual arts in Congo-Brazzaville" financed by the European Union. He was the first foreign photographer to scrutinize life in Africa, far from the images of war, famine and safaris. His documentary works cover diverse subjects, such as the social impact of Mexican family migration, the controversy of the coca leaf in Bolivia, the Mesoamerican spiritual practices and the transformation of colonial architecture in Mozambique.

Héctor Mediavilla received numerous awards, including he prize of the competition of the Picture of the Year, the Hansel Mieth Award, Fotopres, PhotoEspana, CoNCA or the Center's Project Competition.
