Presentation

(Barcelona, 1971)

Her father Luis Marsans initiated Alicia in painting since her childhood. Alicia continued by studying fashion, created her own collections on painted silk and collaborated in producing theatrical costumes. She spent some months in Florence in the mid-nineties to learn various mural painting techniques. In 2000, on returning to Barcelona, she participated in designing a furniture collection in collaboration with Bernardo Valdés. She was immediately awarded the grant assigned to the Velázquez Prize.

Her silhouetted figures, with marked contours, are installed in oneiric atmospheres, bringing substance to what cannot be fixed by definition. Stolen kisses, furtive hugs, gazes crossing, become perceptible though the coarse strokes of her artistic language, making the most of expressions of serenity and calm that are may be appreciated in her landscapes and in still lifes. A more abstract pictorial vision is visible in the “Arena” series, as well as in her stool collages and sculptures.
