Presentation

Haluk Akakçe (b. 1970) is a Turkish multimedia artist who explores the role of technology in manipulating human perceptions in the current age. His work thus far includes abstract paintings, animated video projections, and electronic installations, which inquire into the existence of alternate time and space on two-dimensional surfaces. Akakçe's unique perspective on the universality of human experience stems from his training as an architect in Turkey at the beginning of his career and subsequent ventures in cities across the globe. Amongst his most well known works include The Sky is the Limit (2007), a massive LED canopy covering four city blocks of Freemont Street in downtown Las Vegas, which explored how technology can offer the illusion of infinite space and limitless potential despite being physically restricted in reality.

“I would like to create a dream to wake up to, a dream that comes out and wanders in darkness — everything else fades away, like a precious light contained in a shadowy void."
