Karine Dagenais

Born in: 1975 Canada

Karine Dagenais

Karine Dagenais, also known as Dakapo, was born in 1975 in Canada in Montreal and now lives in Quebec. She received a musical education. Her pseudonym came from her passion for music, 'Da Capo' meaning to start again from the beginning. This idea of renewal is at the heart of her creations.

The artist draws inspiration from the world of flowers, with each of her paintings reflecting a new beginning, blossoming, rebirth or renaissance. She attaches great importance to the colour scheme and her works are characterised by a particular simplicity and the expression of happiness and passion. Her paintings tend to convey movement and intensity, particularly through the effects of light, thus giving off a certain energy reflective of the artist's state of mind.

'My large paintings are the world in which I express myself, through my actions and having the space to move! I can explore the various parts of my personality in them.'

Karine Dagenais considers her work to be on the border between figurative art and abstraction. Her favourite mediums are acrylic and mixed media but also chalk and pastel. She uses paintbrushes as much as pens and seeks to create her own colours which reflect the passion and intensity of her artwork. They are generally raw, bold and pigmented.

The artist is self-taught and learnt to both develop her own style and build a reputation. She has participated in numerous exhibitions in Quebec and her work is part of numerous private and corporate collections.

Her work is at once a new start and a culmination for the artist, who admits that she loves her craft, as it allows her to blossom and 'open the doors to a fabulous adventure that never ceases to amaze her'.
