● Fine art nude photography is a genre that deserves appreciation for its ability to transcend societal norms, celebrate the beauty of the human body and to provoke reactions that unsettle us in our comfort zones. It invites us to embrace our own bodies and appreciate the inherent artistry of the human form. Douglas Ross was born in New York City in 1954. His artistic career spans painting, sculpture & photography. His photographic work is informed by his background in painting and he still draws regularly from life. His work is figurative, it is mythic (in the broadest sense of the word) and it usually involves a close degree of collaboration with the people that he photographs. The artist sees our lives as epic adventures and our struggles as heroic.
“The men and women in Doug Ross's pieces have flawlessly porcelaneous skin and bodies too beautiful to cover in anything more than veils, sarongs and loin cloths. Always solemn in expression and often in reverently elegant poses, they are holy beings reminiscent of the Madonna, druid priestesses, nymphs, and Biblical queens. Holiness and physical beauty seem intertwined to the point where one might go so far as to say that the subjects are beautiful because they are holy or holy because they are beautiful."
- Eugene Hwang - New York City
