High-rendered print on canvas.
Signed and numbered.
Edition of 20.
Wang applies each layer of paint from the canvas' far edges toward its centre, creating a subtle gradation of colour that evokes the effect of an illuminated window radiating from within. Through controlled brushwork and meticulous layering, he transforms the canvas into a meditative space where colour and texture evolve organically, embodying the passage of time.
As a founding member of the N12 artist group in 2003, Wang advocated for a departure from traditional representational painting toward individual expression. By experimenting with depth and surface, he developed a distinctive approach that gives his paintings a mesmerising illusionistic effect.
This limited edition faithfully replicates the texture and visual depth of Wang's hand-painted works. The advanced production process ensures that the intricate details, tonal transitions, and surface qualities remain true to his original artistic intent.
Conceptual art pioneer Wang Guangle was born in Fujian Province, China, in 1976 and graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing in 2000. There he began exploring the potential of texture and painting surfaces, which later translated into his minimalist monochrome painting practice.
Wang's process-based paintings delve into themes such as memento mori, temporality, repetition, and abstraction, making these concepts tangible through his work.
Wang has been awarded several prestigious prizes, such as the Montblanc Artist Award in 2015 and the China Artist of the Year Award in 2016. Wang has participated in notable international exhibitions, including the 4th Prague Biennale (2009), the Busan Biennale (2010), and the California-Pacific Triennial at the Orange County Museum of Art (2013).
His works are part of permanent collections in several esteemed institutions, including the Rubell Family Collection and Contemporary Arts Foundation which are both located in Miami, the White Rabbit Art Museum in Australia and Museum Ludwig in Germany. His works have also been presented in solo shows worldwide, including at Beijing Commune (2015) in Beijing, and Soka Art Centre (2011) in Taipei, among others.
