Original piezography print 20 x 20 cm, on Hahnemühle Rag Metal Fine Art paper
Signed and numbered print, edition of 10
Anaïs Bastard primarily uses film photography in her work. During her Master's degree in Photography at Paris 8 University, her approach to photography was more experimental and conceptual, which allowed her to familiarize herself with different processes and experiment with printing. Although her photography is no longer as conceptual, she likes to maintain this identity linked to research in a film laboratory.
When faced with anguish and anxiety, daydreaming seems to become a weapon of self-defense. It allows us to isolate ourselves, cut ourselves off from reality and our surroundings in order to reassure ourselves and immerse ourselves in a more peaceful world.
"Clearing the Fog," 2023, Original piezography print 20x20cm, on Fine Art Hahnemühle Rag Metal
Signed and numbered print, edition of 10
In her work, Anaïs Bastard primarily uses analog photography. During her Master's in Photography at Paris 8 University, her approach to photography was more experimental and conceptual, allowing her to familiarize herself with various processes and experiment during printing. Although her photography is no longer as conceptual, she enjoys maintaining this identity linked to research in the analog lab.
In the face of anxiety and angst, daydreaming seems to become a tool for self-defense. It allows us to isolate ourselves, to disconnect from reality and our surroundings, in order to reassure ourselves and immerse ourselves in a more soothing world.
In her work, Anaïs Bastard mainly uses film photography.
She has been practicing black and white silver printing since she was 16.

Writing also occupies an important place in her practice, which she has been trying to develop for several years.
For her, these texts and poems take on meaning above all when they interact with images. This dialogue most often takes form in publishing, where the text and image then create a new narrative: responding to each other, conversing, and telling new stories.
Her artistic practice revolves primarily around the notions of refuge, escape, and the care of oneself, others, or nature in the face of a reality that is too difficult to bear. These notions have been present in her projects for several years and are becoming increasingly apparent. She believes that these are questions that are an integral part of her daily life as well as her relationship with others and the world.
