Thierry Michelet alias Joseph, was born in 1961, he lives and works in France. He studied at the School of Fine Arts of Paris. Thierry Michelet uses paper, not as a support but as an structure for his plastic language, or even as the material of the work. The compressed and accumulated "Illustrated" paper, is therefore chosen with great care.
The artist appreciates the newspapers of the 30s, as well as the comics of the 60s and 70s ... a choice made due to the graphic qualities of recognized designers, the particular texture and the chromatic quality of the paper. The choice of the subject "re-used", plays an important role here, as much as the typography that acts as a visual grip and gives balance to the creation as a whole.
Despite a direct visual reference to some form of reality, through the labor of compression and juxtaposition of a multitude of images, however, the work tends to abstraction. The artist intervines on the paper physically (compression and amalgam) as well as visually and conceptually, since every inch of this reality, which merges into a whole, gives meaning to it.
