"I spent my childhood growing up on the Caribbean island of Martinique before moving to France and eventually the UK. This blend of cultural inspiration forms the thread that ties my work together. Beginning with a vibrant colour palette, I try to avoid being constrained by any preconceived ideas of what the painting should be, and instead allows the work to be an extension of my emotions and dreams at that time. It is this highly unusual use of bright colours coupled with thick paint and deep cut lines that has become her intoxicating signature style. I choose abstraction because it allows me to be completely free, abstraction is a vehicle of expression which allows my emotions to flow. I am guided by colours which will calm the soul. I consider myself as an engaged artist which express her disagreements with subtleties by driving the people into the light. Also, I gave myself as mission, through my paintings, to transform sadness, pains, angers in joy and light. Not only that, but I want that each of my paintings are a music to the ear, a breeze of hope and a sun for the viewer's. During a so chaotic period, the public needs comfort, frivolity in their daily life.
My paintings are here to reminder them that there is always hope and light in the darkness. I want to believe that I transmute the darkness to light. My message is that we should always appreciate life. Joy, love and light are the best weapons to face obstacles in our life. At the end, each artist are unique in their own way." - Maryse Pique
