Presentation

Born in 1966 in Brest (Belarus), Lilia Mazurkevich is a world-renowned painter. She studied at Brest Art School from 1975 to 1979, then at the Kiev University of Arts and Design between 1984 and 1987, and finally at City & Guilds of London Art School from 1998-1999.

After her studies, she worked as an illustrator for Belarusian newspapers, which led her to work with publishing houses in the 1990's and 2000's, where she produced covers and content for novels as well as research manuals sold all over the world. She then left her native country and joined the Western world. She now lives in London.

Her oil paintings are divided into two different series, respectively entitled 'Day', where friendly animals regard the viewer against a background of blue sky; and 'Night', which has a darker tone and more sombre characters, most often portraits of women accompanied by exotic and oversized animals.

However, in all her works you can notice a particular attention to detail, in a hyper-realistic approach. Nevertheless, Lilia Mazurkevich is often classed amongst surrealist artists for the mix of eroticism and onirism in her 'Night' series.

Her paintings are now in private collections in the United States, Italy, the UK, Russia, Switzerland and Ukraine. In 2012, she joined the Phantasten Museum in Vienna, Austria.
