Biography

Marcos da Matta experiments with printmaking, painting and drawing, starting from his everyday life in the Recôncavo region, its culture, religiousness, informal work relations and how these issues compose his own identity and that of other individuals.

As writes curator Tarcísio Almeida: "Interested in survivalism, he almost always starts from the details of everyday life - which is often incorporated into the landscape as if it belonged there - to use them as tools, displaced scenarios, incomplete narratives... what comes to the surface of things are its relations and tensions with the Recôncavo region and with the so-called 'informalities' of work".

Selected exhibitions include "Water marks: We must remember" (2021), Salão de Vinhedo (2020) e “Death & Life Art residence open studio" (2019).  Da Matta in currently part of the artist group Práticas Desobedientes.
