Born on September 15, 1948 in Paris of an Italian mother and a Romanian Jewish father, soaked in the convulsive memory of the war, Alain Rothstein evolves in a scholarly environment which allows him to discover painting at the age of seven. . Entering the Beaux Arts in Paris in 1968, he travels in Asia and leads in Paris a life as Proustian as he can. Devastated in 1973 by pancreatitis, he will keep this particular relationship to the between-worlds that marks his work. he began to exhibit in Paris then fled for several years in the Estérel region where he went back to a ruin in his studio. In 1989, he moved back to Paris and founded a family, exhibited in Japan, the United States, Sweden ... One winter evening in 2006, like a figure emerging from his paintings, a schizophrenic friend tried to assassinate him . Long bedridden, Alain Rothstein rose to his feet to paint, gradually tackling increasingly large formats.
