Biography

After having developed a work marked by a strong pictorial heritage revisiting the dramatic effects of grayness, chiaroscuro and impasto, Mathieu Boisadan, self-taught artist, develops a freer style in his approach to subjects and composition. His approach stems from a double desire to confront his reality with that of the history of painting. His interest in contemporary history makes him construct astonishing visions in which the violence of the Ukrainian conflicts, from which he extracts the clichés in the press, is counterbalanced by a soft chromatic treatment, devoid of "local color". Reminiscences of his frequent trips to Central Europe and of 19th century Russian painting discovered in Moscow - that of Mikaïl Nesterov making him want to lighten his palette - nourish his most recent works. By multiplying the sources of inspiration, Mathieu Boisadan describes a trajectory both documented and imaginary which opens onto worlds with a dreamlike tone.
