Presentation

Gonzalo Páramo, (born Burgos, Spain 1971),
graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Salamanca in 1988, specialising
in sculpture. After graduation he moved to the United Kingdom where
successfully completed a Masters degree in Fine Arts from the University of
Kent in Canterbury. He lived in London (U.K.) until 2011, since when he has
been working mainly in Palencia (Spain).

His
artistic development has been characterized by a constant quest in both nature
and science giving his work an experimental and investigative twist. In 2000 he
received a scholarship to develop his work at the Glasgow School of Art
(Glasgow, Scotland), focusing during this period, on a variety of engraving
techniques. In 2002 he had an artistic residency at the prestigious Wellcome
Trust Foundation in London where he had the opportunity to interact with
scientists allowing him to combine aspects of science and art. In recent years,
thanks to the acquisition of various artistic residences and his passion for
traveling, he has visited numerous countries whose cultures have undoubtedly
influenced his artistic production in recent years. Interested in zoology and
the world of science in general, his works has
connotations that reveal these interests.

Currently
his artistic production focuses on paper as a pictorial and sculptural element,
bringing new and interesting dimensions to this which has always been one of
his preferred material supports for creating art. He has participated both solo
and group exhibitions in various countries including Spain, The U.K., U.S.A,
Saudi Arabia, Greece, New Zealand and Japan. Also his work is represented in
several collections, both public and private, including the British Museum,
London, (UK), Fundación Metrópoli, Alcobendas, Madrid, (Spain), The Wellcome
Trust, London, (UK) several private collections in Spain, Germany, Austria,
Greece, UK, USA, New Zealand, Australia, Thailand, Colombia, Japan, Pakistan
and Saudi Arabia.
(Statement).

In
the work of Páramo, drawing, nature and science are always present as creative
motivation. His readings and travel also influence his creative process in
which the subconscious plays an important role. The presence of his own
manuscripts written in reverse, that is, from right to left, are frequent on
the surface of his works. Although he works in canvas and other materials,
during recent years paper has been the main medium for his work, both
pictorially and in sculpture. It should be noted a Páramo invented term
"Paperstries" for these works, which are created using heavyweight
papers and decorating techniques using acrylics, inks, collage and linen
threads type creating unique works that, due to their nature, can be exhibited
as both paintings or sculptures.
