Biography

Saskia Moro (London, 1967) is an artist of Dutch and Portuguese descent who lives and works between Spain and Portugal. She studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Madrid, where she began her studies in 1986 and earned her doctorate in 1993. She soon became interested in printmaking and graphic art, disciplines in which she has developed a personal body of work that combines the materiality of paper and ink with a strong poetic element. In 1989, she founded her first printmaking studio, and since 2000 she has directed her own space specializing in multiple editions.

Her work explores themes such as water, memory, absence, the horizon, and the border, while also incorporating written language as a visual element. For Moro, words and images are part of the same discourse, and she often includes texts in different languages as a way to dissolve cultural boundaries and open spaces for dialogue. This tension between the material and the conceptual defines a body of work that oscillates between lyrical introspection and graphic experimentation.

Throughout his career, he has held solo exhibitions in Madrid, Lisbon, and other cities, in addition to participating in group shows in Europe, Latin America, and Asia, including the 1991 São Paulo International Biennial with the C.H.A.P.A.S. collective. He has received awards such as the José Luis Morales y Martín Prize at the National Printmaking Awards (2002) and the “Best Artist of Tentaciones" award at Estampa (2004)
