Bath Time

Although we can spend hours in it and enjoy relaxing after a long day, the  bathroom  has long been considered the default functional room in the house. If we could choose beautiful basins and colored mosaics to make it more pleasing to the eye, we rarely considered adding real works of art in it.

This era is now over and the bathroom is once again one of the most stylish rooms in the house.

This change of mentality opens the field of possibilities in terms of decoration and we let our imagination run free to decorate the walls and decorate this bathroom that we rediscover under a new light.

First, a little "art history" point. Before looking for modern paintings that fit perfectly in a contemporary bathroom, it is interesting to note that the bathroom, as an intimate place par excellence, has inspired many artists.

In photography first. In the 20th century, the famous fashion photographer Helmut Newton used the bathroom as a background for his sensual shots. The American Annie Leibovitz also captures the actor Harrison Ford shaving in the simplest of clothes.

Among painters, the toilet is a recurring subject but its representation more or less modest knows an evolution in time simultaneously with the evolution of morals.

In 1883, in the impressionist movement, Edgar Degas made an oil on canvas representing a woman (Nude) in her bath sponging her legs.

Later in 1940, Pierre Bonnard proposed a woman lying totally abandoned in her bath. In the wake of cubism, Fernand Léger also painted a picture entitled "Les Femmes à la toilette" which, by its shapes and colors, barely lets us guess what is playing out before our eyes.

If you are not really convinced by a painting representing a bathroom for your bathroom, there are an infinite number of possibilities for paintings to decorate it with taste.

In the bathroom, we will favor the ultra contemporary paintings minimalist or patterned.

Chic and sober, black and white always works, so choose a painting with an abstract line by Cali Rezo, a canvas by Japanese artist Hyroyuki Moriyama or Wilma Tabacco.

On the other hand, to give a vitaminized side to the bathroom, we can consider very colorful patterns, or even screen printing in the pop art style.

One of the fathers of pop art, Roy Lichtenstein, himself created the painting "woman in a bath" which, in the style of the artist, shows a young woman in a bubble bath. Discover the names of emerging pop art artists: Greg Leon Guillemin, Remy Bond ...

Artsper offers you a unique selection of contemporary paintings and especially abstract paintings from the greatest international art galleries to put in your design bathrooms.
