Joyce Fournier, Up And Away

About the artwork

Artwork sold in perfect condition

'Up And Away' is an abstract expressionist painting that is free and gestural. It is an action painting reminiscent of the works of Robert Motherwell, Franz Kline, and Pierre Soulages. While the work is Black and White, it is uplifting in spirit and immediate with strong brushwork. There is minimal second pass adjustment and so what one sees is authentic and inspirational. The painting is signed on the front and back and is ready to hang, unframed, with wire attached. The sides are white and a continuation of the painting. No framing is required unless desired. This painting has been created using professional acrylic paint. A thin layer of Liquitex Professional Satin Varnish has been applied to protect against UV light. The painting works well on its own or with its companion piece 'Into The Night'. Please see the in situ images for design ideas. Please Note: - The in situ images are for display purposes only to show the work in different interiors and/or with suggested frames if desired. Please refer to the exact size of the work provided in the description. -Any duties or taxes required at the shipping destination are the responsibility of the purchaser. Thank you for your understanding.

STATEMENT

"My paintings are Abstract Expressionist and entirely conceptual. They are bold and passionate created with conviction in response to a specific emotion or state of being. Working medium to large in size I start by randomly applying heavy bodied- Gesso to the canvas to create a geometric design. I then use this design as a template for acrylic paint application. I rarely use colour directly from the tube and prefer instead to mix my own. I feel this lends intimacy to the work. Using large brushes and / or palette knives I allow some paint to drip while scraping out various areas to reveal the under painting. My goal is to say as much as possible without having a big discussion. I want people to see what uniquely speaks to them, depending on their own situation. People see different things in my work. Movement, Colour, and Passion are words I often hear people use when they speak about my work. I have been most influenced by the great Abstract Expressionists of post World War II America. Specifically, I feel my work most resembles what one would see if Robert Motherwell, Franz Kline and Hans Hofmann had collaborated to paint something together."
