Note of intent — Deep Inside

“Deep Inside" is one of ZURIK's major works—both in its size, 300 × 150 cm, and in the density of its subject matter. The artist herself describes the intention: the work reflects what she does when she paints in the street, using only spray paint, on a surface large enough to allow her to construct the whole with fluidity. “Painting on a large scale is like a dance for me; it gives me a certain freedom and at the same time greater control over my movements."

“Deep Inside" anchors the work in an introspective dimension rarely seen in graffiti, a tradition largely built on extroversion and urban visibility. ZURIK reverses the gaze: the street becomes a mirror, the wall a diary. It is an intimate portrait, a deeply personal look at his exploration and inner world.

Wildstyle and visual architecture: a personal grammar

ZURIK began painting on the streets of Bogotá in 2009, while simultaneously studying Graphic Design at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. This dual training—that of a self-taught street writer in Colombia and that of a rigorous designer—is fundamental to her work. She has developed a style close to wildstyle—a complex form of graffiti where the overall composition takes precedence over the legibility of the letters—but introduces an organic and geometric dimension that gives it an almost vector-like quality. Her finishes, with a precision that sometimes gives the impression of a printed work rather than one spray-painted, are the result of this dual approach.

Each project is designed from scratch, without reusing any existing elements. For ZURIK, it is crucial to maintain the preeminence of the letters, whose style she describes as close to wildstyle, while seeking to "bring this style to the general public without losing value or authenticity." It is in this space of tension—between the rigor of the Graffiti code and accessibility to the widest possible audience—that her work finds its singularity.

Institutional links

In 2021, ZURIK's work "Eye Contact" entered the permanent collection of the STRAAT Museum in Amsterdam, one of the world's leading museums for urban art, founded in the former NDSM workshops and now housing one of the most important indoor collections of street art. This inclusion in the permanent institutional collection recognizes an artistic approach that transcends the boundaries of graffiti to enter the broader field of contemporary art.

In 2025, ZURIK will participate in the exhibition "Graffiti, Letters & Styles" at the Galerie du Boléro in Versoix, in partnership with the OUTSIDE ART gallery (May 8 – July 27, 2025). She will be featured alongside BANDI, KASER, REYONE, SERVAL, SMASH137 and WHYRE, in an exhibition dedicated to the current state of Graffiti as a demanding artistic discipline.

Formal analysis

The panoramic format of "Deep Inside" — 300 × 150 cm — engages the viewer's body as much as their gaze. The composition, created entirely with spray paint, displays the letters of ZURIK in all their breadth: the color blends, cutouts, and gradients that characterize his work testify to a technical mastery that owes nothing to chance, but everything to years of intensive practice in the streets of Bogotá, then Barcelona, and around the world.

The complexity of the composition—where each letter is nested within the others in a logic of subtle connections—doesn't hinder a certain fluidity of reading. This is the balance inherent in ZURIK's wildstyle: the complexity is real, but it is organized, disciplined, and placed at the service of a coherent whole. "Deep Inside" is, in this sense, a demonstration—but a demonstration unlike any other.

Presentation

From the beginning, his work focused on the construction of works with an organic and geometric style, without losing sight of the structure of the letters, the essence of Graffiti.
Exploring different formats over time, she has added figurative elements to her compositions, which she defines as stemming from the “wild" style. This combination allows her to present works that respect the codes of Graffiti and are at the same time understandable by a wide audience.

Originally from Colombia and living in Spain since 2009, ZURIK has gained notoriety through his unique style and the rigor of his work.
