Svetlana Melik-Nubarova was born in Kazakhstan in 1973. She studied music and painting from an early age and graduated from the Kazakh National Conservatory as a pianist.

She studied psychology in Russia and now works as a child psychologist. Many of the portraits she makes are of the children she treats professionally.

Her passion for painting has greatly influenced her approach to photography.
