Biography

Douraïd Souissi is a Tunisian artist photographer currently in residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. He discovered artistic photography during his stay in the United States where he obtained a master's degree in Philosophy. His photographs have been presented in several artistic events in Tunisia, Africa in general, Europe and the Middle East, notably at 1:54 in London, at the Voies Off festival in Arles, and at the Expo-Talan in Tunis. He invests assiduously so that his works are also shown everywhere in Tunisia as in Siliana, Kef, Haouaria, Hammamet, Ghar el Melh, and Douz, where he has already exhibited. In recent years, he has set out to explore different marginalized Tunisian regions using the landscape as a medium to address social, historical and political issues linked to the current context of the post-revolution. In April 2017, on the occasion of his 3rd solo exhibition, he presented his latest series at Galerie A. Gorgi, curiously entitled “Mohamed, Salem, Omrane, Hbib, Hsouna, Alaa, Farid, Hamza, Mehdi, Oussama, Kamel” which depicts Tunisian men plunged into darkness, gazing downcast, turning their backs to the camera. Portraits that subtly evoke themes as dense and varied as revolution, identity, social contempt, spirituality, the role of the media, the role of images, their proliferation, their over-consumption, post-truth ... .
