Biography

Carmen De Vos (° 1967) is an independent experimental photographer with a penchant for imperfections. She began to photograph several years ago and especially with the Polaroid. "Almost without exception, I use old Polaroid cameras, long-term expired films and self-made filters. My tools and methods - such as film bleaching and deliberate film obstruction - are not are not even oriented towards a perfect representation, and they often give results-such as coloring, deformation, shadow-that I could never have predicted with certainty because their imperfections do not make it possible to calculate.

She always records, portrays and reflects strange stories. She is now working on a new photo novel and a portrait of Flemish women. "Polaroid adds a physical story to the image by itself, and the limited technical capabilities of my equipment restrict me to find my way within these limits and inconsistencies frustrate me as much as it challenges me."

Her work focuses on portraits and an approach to eroticism that is often provocative and blasphemous.
