Biography
Mickalene Thomas is an American visual artist. Born in 1971, Thomas is also a director, curator and producer.
Thomas' multimedia practice spans collages, photographs, installations, and large-scale paintings. She explores themes of desire, female sexuality and power whilst referencing key figures of art history, including Picasso and Manet.
Mickalene Thomas has held solo exhibitions of her work at the Bass Museum, Miami; the Brooklyn Museum; the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston and the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo. She has collaborated with several notable brands, such as Rolls Royce and Dior.
