Naïve Art
Naïve art brings together artists who are often self taught and who develop a free form of expression, freed from any strict academic training and from the classical rules of perspective. Inheriting a spontaneous and personal vision of creation, it is distinguished by simplified compositions, bold and vivid colors, and a visual storytelling that draws on both everyday scenes and intimate or dreamlike imaginaries.
Far from being a lack of skill, this apparent simplicity is in fact the very core of its language: each detail, each chromatic or spatial choice reflects a unique way of perceiving and representing the world. Associated with key figures such as Henri Rousseau, whose dense and dreamlike compositions paved the way for institutional recognition of this art, the movement gradually expanded to artists around the world, from the Douanier to Séraphine Louis, as well as representatives of Haitian, Yugoslav, or African scenes.
On Artsper, this selection highlights diverse and engaging worlds, where each work explores a deeply personal way of depicting reality, combining precision of detail, freedom of composition, and evocative power.
