British artist known for emotive oil paintings and charcoal drawings, self-taught through mentorship and experience.
Born in 1965 in Bristol, Guy Denning is a British painter renowned for his expressive and committed style. He began painting in oils at the age of 11, driven by a precocious passion for art. Although rejected several times by art schools in the 1980s, Denning continued his apprenticeship as an autodidact. He perfected his technique through meetings with more experienced artists in Somerset, who shared their knowledge of oil painting, drawing and charcoal with him.
At the same time, he studied Art History at The Open University, where he earned his degree, enriching his artistic practice with a solid visual culture. For many years, Guy Denning worked in various professions to support his family, while still pursuing his work with determination.
In 2007, he decided to move to Brittany, France, to devote himself fully to painting . His works, imbued with emotion, address powerful themes such as identity, the human condition, and social and political conflict. Blending raw realism, classical influences, and contemporary aesthetics, Denning has developed a powerful visual language that has resonated in numerous exhibitions internationally.
Today, Guy Denning is considered one of the unique voices of the contemporary art scene, notably thanks to his intense portraits, his committed series, and his direct style, as visceral as it is poetic.
