Rosie Nangala Flemming

Rosie was born around 1928. She and her husband left their homeland to settle in Yuendumu when the government established this community after World War II. While still a woman, Rosie worked for Mrs. Fleming, a Baptist missionary, who assisted women in preserving ceremonial objects in the late 1970s.
Rosie, who became President of the Museum created for this purpose, led it for many years. She used traditional iconography to represent the "Jukurrpa," her dream, which concerns the seeds of the waitya-warnu tree, which have an important place in the Aboriginal food chain. Rosie also makes objects such as seed necklaces and was one of the first women to paint with acrylics on canvas when the cooperative was established in 1985. Her other dreams are Ngapa (water), Warlukurlangu (fire), and Yankirri (emeu).

Rosie has died.
