Aitor Saraiba creates ceramic collections using traditional techniques from his hometown of Talavera de la Reina.
Biography
Aitor Saraiba has been working for two decades in drawing, textile art, and ceramics. His work has been exhibited around the world, from Los Angeles to Tokyo, Portugal, Italy, the United Kingdom, Africa, and several cities in Spain.
Saraiba's textile work explores different traditional techniques and brings them into his own unique universe. He revives wool-processing techniques with his flock of sheep in the mountains where he lives, natural dyes with silver, and the technique of darning and mending.
In 2022, the newspaper El País awarded him the ICON prize for Craftsman of the Year for his work in textiles and ceramics. For the same reason and in the same year, Castilla La Mancha awarded her the Regional Merit Award for the revival of traditional techniques in contemporary art.
She has collaborated with the Prado Museum, the Thyssen Museum, Caixaforum, Matadero Madrid, MUSAC, La Casa Encendida, La Térmica, Azkuna Zentroa, and the Costume Museum of Madrid, among others.
