This artwork vividly depicts a charming, rustic cottage enveloped in natural beauty. The structure features a striking red-tiled roof, slightly worn, conveying an endearing sense of age and history. Large, inviting windows dominate the façade, framed by intricate white woodwork, each pane reflecting the sky's soft gradient. The lower windows are paired with lush greenery, including climbing plants and neatly arranged potted flowers, further enhancing the inviting ambiance. A white wooden bench rests under the central window, suggesting a serene space for contemplation. Above, a smaller window, framed by open shutters, offers a glimpse into the cottage's interior warmth. The blend of architectural detail with surrounding foliage beautifully bridges human craftsmanship and nature, making the artwork a compelling study in harmony and nostalgia. The cottage's subtle symmetry and welcoming details draw the viewer into its tranquil, timeless setting.
Collector’s Guide
Yulia Pugashova was born on May 24, 1983 in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Even as a child, she was surrounded by the beauty of nature: from her window she could see the bay and a volcano, which became the main motifs of her first drawings. Another recurring theme of her works, like many girls, were beautiful princesses. In kindergarten, she painted for her playmates, and her drawings were in great demand.
After an exhibition in the kindergarten, the teacher talked to her mother and said that Julia had great talent and should definitely go to an art school. At the age of 11, Julia was taken to the entrance exam to the art school, where she studied for the next four years. In the second year, she took part in a competition on the theme of space, and her work was published in the Moscow magazine "Young Artist". However, in the third year of her art school studies, an incident occurred that left its mark on her further artistic career. In sculpture lessons, which she had always particularly liked, Julia created a three-figure composition based on the story "The Dwarf Nose". When the works were examined by a jury, one of the lecturers said that an artist should depict beauty, not ugliness. For this work, Julia received only a three, which left a deep impression on her.
Her first solo exhibition was at the Institute of Art, where she was in her third year of study. It was a series of graphic portraits made using different techniques and from different perspectives. It was then that she realised that she had a particular talent for drawing people and that she was particularly good at it.
In 2009-2010, Julia created a series of graphic works entitled "City", which were first exhibited at the Institute of Art and later at the Novosibirsk State Historical Museum. After this exhibition, she worked for a while with the museum
together, illustrated two books for them and drew a map of the permanent exhibition. Julia describes herself as a graphic artist and prefers realism and mixed media techniques. In 2013, while working on the series "Signs of the Zodiac", she realized that Art Nouveau was particularly close to her. She considers human beauty and the architectural landscape to be the main themes of her art. She admires people's individuality, likes to observe them and reflects her inner world in her works. Urban landscapes are also a source of inspiration for her: streets, windows, shop windows, cracks in the asphalt - all of this comes to life in her paintings and is charged with meaning.
Julia's most important works include the "City" series, the "Zodiac Signs" series and the "Winds of Change" interior doll. This doll was created during the period when she was intensively engaged in artistic dolls and ultimately turned out to be a self-portrait.
Julia sees the role of the artist as a kind of mediator through which embodied images enter the world. The subjects an artist chooses are always socially relevant, and consciously or unconsciously he conveys not only external reality but also himself through his work. This is why it is so exciting and often frightening for artists to present their work to the public - it is like baring a piece of one's soul.
