Duga

Born in: 1963

Belgium

Biography
Christian Dugardeyn (Duga) was born in Brussels in 1963. He studied medicine at the ULB. After graduation, he joined the Académie des Beaux-Arts to study medical imaging, so he has an artistic academic background. He sets his emotions free through various techniques; drawing, painting and sculpture are his favorite mediums. His work is spontaneous and full of energy. One of his means to let himself be inhabited by emotions is the usage of the continous line. The line tells a story by letting the hand move freely on paper, in a succession of arabesques, straight or curved spontaneous lines, as if life was hanging by a thread. Duga is influenced by artists such as Picasso, Basquiat, Combas, the Cobra group and street art. Graffiti writing inspires him with the speed of gesture and explosion of color. Everything becomes possible. The gesture deformes, all the while keeping the truth visible.
