Antonio Sammartano

Italy Born in: 1967
Sammartano is an interdisciplinary artist, engaged from time to time in painting, sculpture and photography.
The photographic works show the human figure set in the space in which he interacts, only that there is not really, or rather, only its cropped, white shape is present against color or black and white.

Compared to photography, painting is a discipline that can not be fixed in a moment in its realization, and whose movement does not want to be hidden but rather expressed in form, in the subject and with color. Sammartano wants the observer to follow the trail of an implementation path, covering the canvas spatially and temporally, leaving the geometries or paths generated by the brush unbroken.

Color is always in transformation as following the thoughts that the observer is invited to continue in a personal inner genesis. Once again it is an invitation to action in search of an unresolved identity.

Sculpture is also an example of the artist's constant spur to action in his public, in the search for an identity that makes light a signal in one direction, in a path. Here, however, the conceptual lesson tends to simplify the suggestion through an even more explicit metaphor, where the interpretation is logical thanks to the theme defined by the title. With his installation Tunnel of Purification Sammartano represented Italy in 2014 in Medina of Sousse in Tunisia. He was the protagonist with nine Tunisian artists and six of other nations of the project "Bye Bye Bakchich Système (goodbye to the system of corruption)", supported by UNDP (The UN agency for development), which involved painting sculpture and scenography.
