An En Plein Air Painting originally titled: "Wassenaarse Strand" in Dutch. Wassenaar Beach is a painting that closely resembles another of her painting "Beach fun at Katwijk". The composition follows the shoreline going South. If you walked that direction, you would end up in Scheveningen, The Hague. That is also the high building you see at the far end of the painting.

The painting at Katwijk is also a painting of the shoreline heading South. Walking from Katwijk along the shore due South, you would first encounter Wassenaarse Beach, before continuing to Scheveningen. It is a typical Dutch day, and the horizon is threateningly cloudy. Yet one can almost feel the breeze and the sun shining intermittently through the clouds.

En Plein air means Jeanette stood on the beach she was painting. She painted for hours until it was done, capturing the moving nature of the beach, waves and clouds. It is a lively seascape. Jeanette uses her sculpting techniques of intuitively following the material until there is balance. The final painting is not pre-emptively decided. She takes her material to the dunes or forests. There she uses her painter's eye, demarcate a piece of nature, and she paints hours to capture that small moment in space and time. She keeps painting until there is a balance in each of her paintings. Jeanette signs her work: "Sebas" and the year. Named after the successful gallery she started, which she decided to close because there was no more time to create art. Jeanette sculpts and paints.

Jeanette Olyhoek

Netherlands Born in: 1957

Jeanette Olyhoek almost exclusively paints "en Plein air" coastal oil paintings. Most often from the dunes and the sea near Wassenaar, The Netherlands. But she also paints at every beach in the vicinity, such as Katwijk,  or Zeeland, The Netherlands and Normandy, France.

Jeanette also sculpts, using the Waist Direct method, a method in which you let yourself be guided by the stone and therefore never know exactly what will arise. When she dabbles in abstract painting, she uses this same method using sand, plaster and paints to create something intuitively. With only determining the colours pre-emptively. Continuing to create until everything comes into balance.

Balance in each composition, as understood as a sculptor, is evident in each of her paintings.
