Presentation

Robert Delval is a French artist, born in 1934.

In 1947, he began his studies at the Haute École Claude Bernard in Paris. This is when he realized his first gouaches.

Robert Delval found his stylistic impetus in Bonnard and Matisse, but quickly went on to forge his own sense of space and color. His works are semi-abstract « fields » of color. Although Nature is at the origin of each of his works, his perspective distortions create a surface tension which is not only delicate but powerful.

Brought up in an atmosphere dominated by painters and painting, the artist was plausibly influenced by the art of painting during his childhood years. His early canvases seem to show that painting was mainly a matter of colors. Though he recognized the relative importance of perspective and pencil strokes. Apparently, Delval decided that color will be his medium and instrument, to give pleasure and enchantment.

Robert Delval's works are exhibited in France and in several European countries (Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Greece...) but also in North America (USA and Montreal).
