Presentation

Jeantimir is a French painter, born in Paris in 1941. He was put in an orphanage after his parents passed away, he had to fend for himself in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine quarter, from the age of 13.
He became a carpenter and did his military service during the Algerian war, this experience deeply shocked him. Once back in Paris, he did many odd jobs and had a key encounter with Marceau Rivière, a great African art collector. Jeantimir's drawings had appealed to him for many years, this opened the doors of Parisian galleries and allowed him to become an artist. Today, Jeantimir lives and works in Nogent-le-Rotrou.

A self-taught artist, Jeantimir's work can be treated as Art Brut, these artists are free from any prior artistic culture. The themes of his work depends on his inspiration, his style is unique and recognizable, writing is important. He creates scenes which take us back to our childhood.

Valued by Art Brut collectors, Jeantimir's work is part of private collections in France, USA and are often present at Drouot's auctions.
