Etienne Gros

Etienne Gros was born in Saint-Dié in 1962. He lives and works in the Paris region.
From 1981 to 1986 he studied in various art schools: Epinal, Versailles among others. He is a graduate of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris where he attended the workshops of Iscan, Olivier Debre and Velicovic.
He receives the Azart grand prix of the Mac salon in 2006.

Etienne Gros paints fragmented anatomies, truncated bodies, apparently dissociated of any relationship with the physical reality and showing no facial traits. But the torsos, the flanks, the knees appear as caught in the middle of a battle, freeing up mysterious forces.

A manipulator of matter, the artist acts according to the marouflage technique, applying on each canvas a thick sheet of paper that lives and moves chemically at the contact with the acrylic paint.
