Biography

Lives and works in Chantilly. Devotes himself entirely to sculpture in the early 90s, quickly spotted by the art world. Having had access from childhood to the world of metal and wood by his two grandfathers, Etienne Jacobée chose steel to sculpt. This familiar material that he experiments to make it express all its possibilities, with a freedom that takes it from full to empty, from vertical construction to horizontal stretching, from pure form to improbable assemblages, from smooth to grainy , from the strict choice of the metal section to the welding of stylized segments ……. In permanent research, the artist refuses to let himself be locked into a style - he also works with plaster and wood or recently had some bronze pieces cast - but admits certain filiations: Henri Laurens, Eduardo Chilida, Dominique Labauvie. In a language always stripped but diversified, which can approach tribal art like evoking the body or reaching a poetic note, the works of Etienne Jacobée call for caress, touch. His sculptures are alive. It happens to coat them with earth, even to bury them for several years to obtain material effects with the lichens that have developed. From 2013, he designed sound sculptures emitting percussion sounds and worked on musical improvisation among the sculptures. Recently, he has been painting certain sculptures in color. His work is presented in the Special Edition on Contemporary Sculpture in 2015 by Artension, which also dedicated a portrait to him in 2016.
