Biography

Born in 1960, Betty Hanns is a French sculptor who lives and works in Bourg-Bruche.

She uses newspaper, brief and mundane materials to sculpt, Betty Hanns knows all the facets as she has been handling them for a long time now, while working with children. In order to give substance to her slender figures, the artist takes things up a notch, through bending, forging and welding the metals, to obtain a skeleton, a metal frame which she decorates through volume. Her compositions makes us wonder about our temporal and relational space: the link between Earth and sky, material and immaterial, oneself and the others, balance and imbalance, waiting and meeting.

Her stories are like moments which were captured on the spot. Well rooted in her metal base, the figures launch themselves into an aerial, fragile and staggering balance, to discover space and others. Man and woman are re-invented, worked, portrayed in the nude and explored to depict all their scruples.
