Presentation

Sophie Mathilde Tauss has lived and worked since 1986 in the Vexin, near Auvers-sur-Oise.

She divides her time between her profession as a psychiatrist-psychotherapist, sculpture (modeling and stone cutting), yoga and "la maison à tonton" a therapeutic home for psychically handicapped patients.

Sophie-Mathilde Tauss has a personality that is out of the ordinary: she is a creator who expresses herself through an impressive body of work, but she is also a person overflowing with energy and activities, always carrying ambitious projects. She found her vocation for sculpture in July 1980, while visiting a potter's workshop on the island of Siphnos, Greece. Responding to an impulse, she took a ball of clay and began to shape it into the body of Aphrodite. Since then, she has not stopped sculpting. Some of her characters emerge from the gangue in which they were engulfed with this irresistible power that evokes Rodin. She is a great lady who pursues the permanent quest for a harmonious balance between body and mind.

My artistic research," she writes, "has led me from theater to sculpture, which I practice in conjunction with my work as a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst. But all this goes in the same direction".
