KAWS: Toys

KAWS, whose real name is Brian Donnelly, was a freelance illustrator for Disney long before he was an independent artist. As a lover of street art and pop art, he always wanted to make art accessible to all. In his artworks, he uses many famous cartoon and comic characters, such as The Simpsons and SpongeBob. His trademark? His characters have crossed out eyes, giving the impression that they are dead. In 1999 he created his first plastic toy called Companion. This toy has a rounded belly, thin legs and arms, and wears white gloves which are reminiscent of those of Disney characters, such as Mickey Mouse. Companion was produced in collaboration with the Japanese streetwear brand Bounty Hunter. The aim was to make this limited edition piece affordable to all audiences.

Since then, KAWS has produced many other plastic sculptures of Disney characters such as Tweety, Snoopy and Pinocchio, or of his new characters such as Chum, Bendy or Blitz. Today, the artist is in high demand, and all of his releases sell out instantly. He has collaborated with famous fashion brands and with professionals from the film and music industries, such as Tim Burton or Kanye West. Don't miss the opportunity to buy one of KAWS's Toys artworks, available on Artsper!
