In LSD : Digital Psychedelia or Navigating the Infinite Code, Sumomo Kanashiwa immerses the viewer in a saturated visual experience where color, identity, and perception dissolve within an incandescent digital flow.
The frontal portrait, dominated by intense red tones, immediately establishes a hypnotic atmosphere reminiscent of total sensory immersion.
The crimson-haired female figure, both elegant and emotionally distant, evokes a manga heroine drifting through a constantly shifting mental universe.
Her sideways gaze suggests a consciousness suspended between lucidity and psychological drift.
Floating luminous shapes create an environment resembling a digital hallucination or algorithmic dreamscape.
Kanashiwa employs chromatic repetition to generate an almost vertiginous sense of visual immersion.
Oil painting techniques soften this explosion of color while preserving the subtle vibrancy of traditional canvas texture.
Decorative elements integrated into the hair recall contemporary Japanese fashion culture and Harajuku visual codes.
The composition conveys a loss of orientation within an image-saturated digital environment.
The character appears to emerge from a sea of data where reality and illusion blur.
The work reflects the psychological condition of a generation facing permanent digital overstimulation.
The softness of facial features contrasts sharply with the aggressive intensity of the surrounding chromatic field.
Kanashiwa transforms manga-inspired aesthetics into a more complex and introspective emotional experience.
Diffused light envelops the figure in an aura that feels simultaneously seductive and unsettling.
Every visual detail reinforces the impression of a mind absorbed within uncontrollable streams of imagery.
The painting explores the fragile boundary between technological fascination and contemporary mental saturation.
A major member of the Japanese CrazyNoodles studio founded by Hiro Ando, Kanashiwa actively contributes to the evolution of Nippon Neo Pop.
Her work stands out through its ability to combine visual seduction with psychological depth.
LSD can be read as a metaphor for mental navigation through infinite contemporary digital spaces.
The artwork captivates through its intense chromatic energy and immediate immersive power.
The painting offers collectors a bold expression of contemporary Japanese Neo-Pop painting.
This piece further confirms Kanashiwa’s singular voice within emerging visual sensibilities of the digital era.
The painter-illustrator lives and works in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She did a training in Computer Graphics and Design School before concentrating on her oil painting creations in the 2000s. Sumomo Kanashiwa, the Argentina based artist and illustrator is extremely inspired by Japanese Manga and the animation culture – mostly wide eyed females – subjects. Despite being influenced by Japan’s comic art, Kanashiwa’s style has its own original flair and charm that distinguishes her art from the works of other artists. Pink haired, beautiful girls with an unusual blue-gray skin tone, often positioned in surreal settings, are recurring patterns in her painting. Having never formally studied art before, Kanashiwa began her artistic career as a self-taught painter in the mid-2000s, in Buenos Aires, one of the most diverse cities in Latin America. Although Argentina has its own tradition of comics, Kanashiwa’s illustrative style is primarily influenced by her Japanese heritage. The highly talented artist uses intense colors to highlight believability and originality of her wistful characters, who look as if they are lost in their own thoughts and in their own world, some examples include: Thinking About (2009), Pool (2008), and 13593 (2008).
