A multidisciplinary and committed artist .
The love of photography was born very early on in this self-taught artist with a curious, imaginative and perfectionist personality.
Today, he is a multidisciplinary artist who expresses himself in photography, sculpture, video, painting or even live performance to make his commitments heard.
At his beginnings Philippe Shangti settled in the city of Saint-Tropez. It is this “city-muse” which inspired the artist's first revolts and which saw the birth of his first creative concepts which truly revealed the artist in the very demanding environment of contemporary art.
His art: his fights.
Through art, the artist denounces the vices of our society, points the finger at human behavior to awaken consciousness.
Thanks to an aesthetic pushed to its paroxysm in each of his works, the artist deals with serious subjects such as pollution, drugs, the condition of women, prostitution and even the animal condition.
Each year, Philippe Shangti presents a new collection of works carrying a new fight. Each new series is a challenge as delicate as it is daring to deal with because the artist denounces the immoral by embellishing it. If he denounces the vices of this world with aesthetics, it is to effectively register his struggles in the minds of the public, with benevolence and depth. Without ever crossing the borders of moralizing sermon or vulgarity, the artist creates visuals more beautiful than violent in order to convey his messages to the greatest number. He attaches great importance to details, symmetry, perspectives and the balance of the different elements of his works.
International recognition
Philippe Shangti is now one of the rising contemporary artists of his generation. His work is exhibited in numerous galleries in France and abroad: Geneva, London, New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Ibiza, Amsterdam, Paris and Saint-Tropez.
In 2019, Philippe Shangti was selected to represent the Principality of Andorra at the 58th Venice Biennale.
His shocking monumental project, once again very committed: “Future Is Now” aims to demonstrate that human behavior today irreversibly determines the world of tomorrow. Here again, the message is clear: to change human consciousness and behavior by upsetting the values and priorities of our societies.
The international press and art players have ranked the Andorran pavilion - and his work “The Future Is Now” - among the 10 unmissable pavilions of this Biennale.
