This intriguing artwork presents a surreal portrait of a person whose head seamlessly melds into a cluster of barren branches, symbolizing nature's profound intertwining with human identity. The composition evokes a sense of metamorphosis, as the branches, adorned with sparse red berries, extend skyward, suggesting a blend of fragility and resilience. The subject's bare shoulders and chest are wrapped in a muted, textured fabric, adding contrast to the starkly barren branches above. The muted and minimalist background accentuates the central figure, focusing the viewer's attention on the profound connection depicted. The piece boldly challenges perceptions of individuality and growth, offering a unique exploration of human and natural worlds coalescing. Both unsettling and captivating, this artwork invites contemplation on themes of transformation, nature, and human essence.
From the smallest of seeds the tree grows, striving for the skies. Branches form, ramify and blossom in the rhythm of time. The human figure transforms. The elements depend on each other. An eternal dance of transformation. One becomes the other, again and again. Each the others source of life. A constant process in motion
Starting with photographic base elements, such as the figure or the landscape, Haider transforms the scenery into a surreal world through heavy post-production. She uses photographs, that in their essence capture something real, to merge these aspects of reality, slowly creating something unreal and imagined, yet familiar in its story - a dreamscape, drawing from the essence underneath the surface. In her work the unspoken finds itself translated into images.

Originally from Austria, Michaela Haider found her expression in photography at an early age. Drawing inspiration for her early works from the fields and forests, streams and rivers of the region she grew up in. After studying chemistry in Graz, Helsinki and Berlin, the scientific perspective provided even deeper insights into the unifying element of her work — the relationship between the human form and nature, and the materialistic aspect of both.
Her images depict staged worlds that pose and explore the question of this relationship from the human perspective.
Haider's works have been exhibited in Austria, Germany, Spain, and Finland.
