Motion, 2024

Michaela Haider

This mesmerizing artwork captures a dynamic fusion of movement and color, evoking the ethereal grace of a dancer. Rendered in layered, translucent shades of blue, the figure appears to transcend its earthly confines, swirling elegantly on a textured backdrop. The artist skillfully combines abstraction with fluid motion, creating a sense of depth and vitality. This composition is unique in its ability to convey both stillness and energy, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the hidden stories within each brushstroke. The interplay of light and shadow enhances the figure's ephemeral quality, while the deliberate blurring of outlines emphasizes motion and fluidity. This artwork stands out as a captivating meditation on movement and presence.

Starting with photographic base elements, such as the figure or the landscape, Haider transforms the scenery into a surreal world through heavy post-production. She uses photographs, that in their essence capture something real, to merge these aspects of reality, slowly creating something unreal and imagined, yet familiar in its story -  a dreamscape, drawing from the essence underneath the surface. In her work the unspoken finds itself translated into images.
